HYPERTON-X
This gentle therapy enables the body to release muscles that have been tight for years and years.
GENTLE MUSCLE-RELEASE
(HYPERTON-X)
Safe, Painless, Gentle and Effective
What is Hyperton-X?
The name is based on the word ‘hyper-tonic’, which literally means ‘too tight’. I have used this very gentle ‘light-touch therapy’ since 1984 on patients of all ages.
It involves :
• NO Pain
• NO Manipulation
• NO ‘crunching’ or ‘clicking’
It helps the body to release muscles that have been held too tightly for too long. I myself had a shoulder injury which I had suffered with for 14 years which resolved in just one treatment, and 14 years of pain and limitation vanished at once. That impressed me!
What is Hyperton-X good for?
Anyone and everyone will benefit to some degree from Hyperton-X because most of us are - literally - carrying around memories of past injuries in our muscles.
These are the main reasons people ask me for help:
• Whiplash injuries
• General backaches
• Migraines
• Tense shoulders
• Frozen shoulders
• Jaw problems
• Sciatica
• Hip & Knee problems
• Stiff joints
• Painful coccyx
• Headaches
• Hiatus hernias
How does it work?
Very slowly and gently a muscle is taken to the limit of its range of movement by the practitioner. The patient is ‘in charge’ at all times and says “Stop” before any pain is felt. Gentle pressure is applied by the patient, resisted equally gently by the practitioner for a short length of time and then the patient relaxes and releases their own muscle in the process.
Often other muscle-groups are involved in the ‘guarding pattern’ and the body has to be gently ‘untangled’, which is where the skill comes in!
When should Hyperton-X not be used?
Because it is a gentle approach, and because the therapist is not trained or licensed to manipulate a dislocated joint or vertebra (known as a subluxation), wherever a serious injury is involved, we generally refer on to a more highly trained practitioner such as an osteopath, physiotherapist or chiropractor. No risks are ever taken and in my 22 years of working with Hyperton-X I have never hurt or damaged anyone.
Having said that, Hyperton-X has often worked where repeated manipulation has failed to get to the bottom of a problem and whiplash injuries, frozen shoulders and migraines are many times able to be resolved in a very few sessions, if not in one.
Is it necessary to have many treatments?
Usually, most problems (such as my shoulder) are ‘one-offs’. Once a problem is sorted out and the body no longer needs to ‘guard’ it ... that’s it!
What about a regular M.O.T.?
I find that once a person is comfortable, one treatment every 13 weeks will generally keep most people pretty limber and flexible. Those clients that injure themselves in between sessions will pop in for a quick visit before the problem becomes chronic. The benefits of being able to do all you want to without pain or restriction is worth its weight in gold and, after all, makes sense ... a stitch in time saves nine.
Who benefits from Hyperton-X?
Whether you are 5 years old or 85 years old, this treatment is so gentle that even people with pretty bad arthritis can acheive relief and mobility that they have not experienced for years. Especially with a chronic condition, I usually ask patients to bring a family member or friend along so that they can learn how to help the patient in between visits, as opposed to seeing them 3 times per week!
Much younger than 5 years old, it is harder to get the children to do what you want, but I will generally give it a go. If after 5-10 minutes it is obvious that we are not going to be able to get their co-operation, then I will bring the session to a halt with no charge.
Workshops
From time to time, when the demand is there, I run weekend courses for both therapists and patients.
By the end of the weekend, everyone has developed enough confidence to be able to help their nearest and dearest where appropriate and within their skills range.
